"O' You who believe! Observing the fast is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you, that you may become the pious." [Quran 2:183] "እናንተ ያመናችሁ ሆይ!ጾም ለነዚያ ከናንተ በፊት (ህዝቦች በግዴታነት) እንደተደነገገ ሁሉ በናንተ ላይም ተደንግጓል። ጥንቁቆች ትሆኑ ዘንድ።" [ቁርዐን 2:183]

"The month of Ramadan in which was revealed the Qur'an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the criterion [between the right and wrong]. So whoever of you is resident during the month must observe fast ..." [Qur'an 2:185]
Virtues of the Fast of Ramadan
Abu Hurayra narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "Whoever fast the month of Ramadan with faith and hoping for its reward shall have all his previous sins forgiven for him"
Abu Hurayra also narrated that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) siad, "Allah has said, 'All the deeds of the human are for him except fasting. It is for Me and I shall reward it.' The fast is a shield ..." [Recorded by Bukhari, Muslim and Nasa'i]
Sahl Ibn S'ad narrated that the Prophet [PBUH] said, "In Paradise there is a gate called ar-Rayya'n. Those who fast will enter through it on the Day of Resurrection and none other than them shall enter it. It will be said, 'Where are those who fasted?' They will stand and none other than them shall enter it. When they all enter it, it will be closed and no one will then enter through it."
May Allah make us among those who enter the Paradise through the ar-Rayya'n. Amen.
